Yellow Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School have been busy sharing their half term and Halloween news together.
The children have been exploring pumpkins and pumpkin seeds, using their mathematical thinking as they practised subitising small groups of seeds. They carefully observed what they could see and enjoyed discussing their ideas with one another. Comments such as, “I can see a group of 2” showed the children developing confidence in recognising quantities without counting, while also building their communication and language skills.
The excitement of Bonfire Night has inspired lots of learning too. Children were eager to talk about the fireworks they had seen and enjoyed listening to one another’s experiences. They expressed their ideas creatively through colourful artwork, as well as using music and movement to represent the different sounds and patterns of the fireworks in the sky.
Yellow Room also enjoyed a visit to the library. Following the visit, each child will begin bringing a library book home each week to share with their family. Books can then be returned and exchanged for a new one, helping to foster a love of stories, reading and language both at nursery and at home.
