What an exciting start to Term 2 in Rainbow Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School!
The children have enjoyed exploring a pumpkin in lots of different ways. They used their hands and spoons to scoop out the inside, investigating the texture and transporting the pumpkin pieces into different containers. This hands-on sensory play encouraged curiosity, exploration and early mathematical thinking as children filled, emptied and moved materials between containers.
The pumpkin seeds inspired even more imaginative play. Children carefully pressed the seeds into clay and used them as candles on birthday cakes they had created. They proudly sang Happy Birthday to one another, developing their communication skills, creativity and social interactions as they played together.
At the craft table, the children have spent lots of time using chalks to create colourful firework pictures. They explored different marks and colours before adding glitter and stars with glue sticks to create exciting sparkly effects. Following their enthusiasm for this activity, the children also decorated their telescopes, linking their learning to this term’s core book, Shark in the Park. This provided another opportunity to develop fine motor skills and express their creativity through art and design.
Well done, everyone, on a fantastic first week back and a great start to Term 2!
