This week, the children in Rainbow Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School have been enjoying exploring their new garden and discovering the changes that autumn brings. They had great fun kicking the fallen leaves on the grass before collecting some to investigate more closely in the outdoor tray. The children carefully looked at the different colours and textures of the leaves, developing their curiosity and early understanding of the natural world.
The new outdoor space has also provided lots of opportunities for physical development. Children have been challenging themselves on the balancing beams, building their confidence, coordination and balance as they moved along the path. They also enjoyed collecting water from the water tray and using paint brushes to make marks on the footpath, exploring cause and effect while strengthening their fine motor skills.
As part of Black History Month, the children spent time exploring mirrors and talking about their faces. They were encouraged to look closely and describe what they could see, including their skin colour, hair colour and facial features. Together, the children talked about curly hair, straight hair, long hair and short hair, celebrating the similarities and differences that make each person unique. They also enjoyed discovering how toys looked in the mirror reflections, sparking lots of conversation and laughter.
Well done, Rainbow Room, for another lovely week of learning, exploration and discovery.
