Green Room has been full of storytelling and imaginative play this week at The Limes Nursery School.
Children have been practising retelling the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar using story props. As they recalled different parts of the story, they developed their speaking and listening skills, built their confidence in sharing ideas, and explored the sequence of events together.
The role play area has transformed into a busy pet shop, where children have been caring for a variety of animals using tills, money, leads and collars. This play has encouraged lots of rich conversations about animals and their needs, helping children to develop new vocabulary related to pet care and wellbeing.
Children have also been using clipboards to make notes about their pets’ illnesses, creating meaningful opportunities for mark making and early writing. Through working together, taking on different roles and solving problems, they have been developing their communication, creativity and understanding of the world around them.
