Over the past two weeks, Class One at Rosemary Nursery School has been learning about Black History Month. Children have enjoyed sharing and exploring books filled with beautiful, diverse images, helping them to think about their own families and communities. Through conversations and observations, they reflected on who looks similar to them and who looks different, developing their understanding of themselves and others.
Children have also been looking closely at their own features using mirrors and creating self-portraits. These creative experiences encouraged them to notice and celebrate the similarities and differences within the class, while building confidence in expressing their own identities through art.
Outside, children have loved dancing to music in the fresh air. They listened carefully to changes in tempo and adapted their movements and speed to match the music, developing their listening skills, coordination and physical confidence.
There is also great excitement as we prepare for the arrival of our guinea pigs in three weeks’ time. Children have been talking about how to care for animals gently and kindly, and have been using blocks and construction materials to build homes for pets. These activities are helping children to develop empathy, imagination and an understanding of how to care for living things.
Well done, Class One!
