Over the past two weeks, Kelly from Children’s Kitchen has been visiting the garden at Rosemary Nursery School, harvesting some of the wonderful fruits and vegetables that she and the children planted during the spring and summer of last year.

There has been plenty to discover, with chard, celery, beetroot and parsley all ready to pick. The children carefully helped to harvest the vegetables, looking closely at what was ready and deciding which plants needed a little more time to grow. We are all still eagerly waiting for the sweetcorn!

The harvest sparked lots of curiosity as children explored the vegetables using all of their senses. They sniffed the different smells, felt the textures, helped with chopping and enjoyed tasting the fresh produce in the late autumn sunshine. These hands-on experiences supported children’s communication and language skills as they shared their ideas and observations, while also helping them develop a deeper understanding of the natural world and where food comes from.

A big thank you to Kelly and Children’s Kitchen for helping to make the most of the nursery garden and giving children such a rich and memorable experience.
