Children in Rosemary Class One have enjoyed another busy week of learning, inspired by their interests and our core story, Dear Zoo.
Following on from last week’s water painting activity at the chalkboard, children explored painting on the easel indoors. As they painted, they talked about being high, low and stretching wide, developing their understanding of positional language while strengthening their physical skills. Some children enjoyed making marks with their hands, exploring the sensory feel of the paint and expressing themselves creatively.
Our core book for this week and next is Dear Zoo. Children have been busy naming different animals and joining in with familiar phrases from the story, such as “too tall”. In the craft area, they have been developing their fine motor skills by wrapping animals from the story in boxes, practising how to use scissors and tape safely and purposefully. As they worked, many children recited parts of the story together. Some children extended their imaginative play by hiding in boxes and using their bodies to pretend to be different animals from the book.
Outside, children have continued to develop their block play. They have shown great imagination in their constructions, whilst noticing symmetry and talking about the features of different shapes. Children used language such as pointy, curved, longer and shorter as they explored and discussed their creations.
Well done, Class One!
