This week in Green and Green 2 at The Limes Nursery School, children have been enjoying our core book, Each Peach, Pear Plum. Through this much-loved story, children have been exploring new vocabulary and developing their understanding of rhyme, beginning to recognise patterns in language and build the confidence to join in with familiar phrases.
A particular highlight has been our ‘silly soup’ activity, which has brought lots of laughter and learning. As we sing together, children are encouraged to listen carefully to sounds and identify rhyming words to add into the “soup”, such as bat, hat and cat. This playful, multi-sensory experience supports children’s phonological awareness, an important foundation for early reading and writing, while also developing listening skills, attention and turn taking.
Alongside our focus on rhyme, we have been thinking about what makes each of us unique. Children will be creating their own self-portraits, taking time to look closely at their features and talk about what makes them special. This supports their sense of identity and belonging, while encouraging expressive arts and design as they represent themselves in creative ways.
It has been a joyful week of language, creativity and self-expression, with children fully engaged in their learning through play and shared experiences.
