This week in Red Class at The Limes Nursery, children have been practising their Makaton signs. Many children have shown real enthusiasm for learning new signs and revisiting those they already know, using them confidently as part of their everyday communication. This shared focus supports children’s language development, listening skills and confidence, while also helping them to understand that there are lots of different ways to communicate with one another.
Alongside this, some children enjoyed making chapattis inspired by the class core book, Chappatti Moon. The experience of mixing, rolling and cooking helped children develop their physical skills and follow simple processes, while also opening up conversations about stories, ingredients and food from different cultures. At snack time, lots of children chose to try the chapattis they had made, with many enjoying eating them together alongside their peers. These shared moments supported social skills, turn taking and a sense of belonging within the group.
Through stories, hands on cooking and communication practice, children in Red Class continue to build their confidence, curiosity and enjoyment of learning together.
