Yellow Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School has had a really magical week, with sunshine, stories and some very wiggly worms!
The children have been exploring this term’s core book, Maisy Goes to Bed, and have absolutely loved it. The home corner has been transformed into Maisy’s very own home, giving children the chance to act out their own bedtime routines in a way that feels familiar and comforting. This kind of role play is brilliant for developing communication and language skills, as well as helping children make connections between stories and their own lives.
Nursery rhymes have been a big focus this week too, with the children beginning to learn Ten in the Bed, I Can Sing a Rainbow, Wiggly Woo and Hickory Dickory Dock. The children have been getting very hands-on with Ten in the Bed, taking turns to be the ones who roll over and fall out — which has caused much laughter! Inspired by I Can Sing a Rainbow, the children have also been creating their own rainbows in the classroom, and Wiggly Woo led to some very exciting worm hunting in the digging area, where the children even discovered a centipede!
With the sunshine making a very welcome appearance, the children enjoyed snack time outside as a picnic this week, which felt like a very special first taste of spring.
