This week, a key aspect of play for lots of children has been developing their imaginative play ideas by taking on a role in their play, exploring different identities and scenarios through pretend situations. There has been consideration of how to care for others using props such as bandages, plasters, and stethoscopes, with children exploring roles that involve caring for others whilst developing empathy and understanding of helping professions.
We have worked on developing this play idea further by using non-fiction books to find out more information about our bodies, connecting imaginative play with real learning about anatomy and health. This approach helps children understand the real-world context behind their role play whilst building knowledge and curiosity.
We use a tiered approach to developing the skills needed to work with and manipulate clay. This week, we have been using clay as a painting medium, exploring a different way to create marks and discovering the unique properties of clay when used for painting rather than sculpting.
We are continuing to welcome new children into our Green 2 classroom, supporting them as they settle into their new environment.
