This week has been all about fine motor skills, setting up provision following on from children’s interests last week and providing opportunities for careful manipulation and control.
The children have been using natural finds in the garden to create collaborative art, working together to arrange leaves, twigs, and other materials whilst developing their creative thinking and teamwork. We have been creating with clay, exploring the malleable material through squeezing, rolling, and shaping whilst building hand strength and dexterity.
The children have been using loose parts to make pictures and repeating patterns, developing mathematical thinking and design skills whilst practising the precise placement and arrangement of materials. All of these activities support the fine motor development that children need for future writing and other intricate tasks.
