This week, there has been a focus on supporting and developing phonological awareness through alliteration and rhyme, along with some fun games that help children discriminate between sounds. These activities help children hear and recognise sound patterns in language, building essential foundations for reading and writing.

Within this same thread of ongoing language development, we have been thinking about children’s understanding of prepositions such as in front of, on, or behind. In the garden, this has been considered in a really creative way: children have been creating dens and structures and considering placing themselves on or underneath them, whilst also thinking about prepositional language when designing their constructions. This hands-on approach helps children understand spatial relationships through physical experience.

Our core book this week and next is called “So Much,” which has a focus on a sense of belonging and family units, celebrating the love and connections within families.

To further develop our sense of belonging, we have new key group bears. Each bear identifies the key groups and works to build a sense of community and belonging. This has been well received by children, who are currently asking many thoughtful questions about who the bears are and what they enjoy! 😊
