This week in Willow Room at The Limes, the children have been busy becoming authors, actors and audience members through our new Helicopter Stories sessions. Using a magical stage made from masking tape, children took turns sharing their own short stories with an adult before coming together to perform them as a group.

The sessions sparked plenty of imagination, with children creating wonderfully inventive stories and enthusiastically taking on different roles during the performances. As they listened to one another’s ideas and worked together to act out each story, they developed their confidence, communication skills and creativity. The children were so proud of their storytelling, and their stories will soon be displayed in the room for everyone to enjoy. We will be running these sessions every Wednesday so that every child has the opportunity to become a storyteller.

As part of our learning for Black History Month, the children have also been creating self-portraits using special skin-tone colouring pencils. With mirrors in front of them, they carefully observed their own features before selecting colours that reflected how they see themselves. The children approached the activity thoughtfully, making bold and beautiful marks on paper and celebrating the uniqueness of each portrait.

It has been lovely to see children expressing themselves in so many different ways this week, through storytelling, performance, art and conversation.
