It has been a wonderful week of creativity and conversation in Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School as the children have been sharing their personal experiences and diving into the world of our core book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
As we look forward to Eid, the children have been busy planning for the upcoming celebrations. They have enjoyed sharing their plans with their friends, talking about who they will be celebrating with and sharing their hopes for special gifts. To help explore these ideas further, the children used mark-making to illustrate their thoughts, which is a fantastic way to develop their communication and early literacy skills within the early years framework.
Our creative exploration continued with a focus on different textures. The children used crayons to create rubbings of various surfaces, observing the unique patterns that appeared. There was great excitement as they compared their rubbings to the tiger’s stripes in our story, helping them to make visual connections and develop their descriptive language.
To bring the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea to life, Class 1 headed to the kitchen to bake their very own “Tiger buns.” This practical activity supported their Expressive Arts and Design development while also introducing simple measuring and mixing. The storytelling didn’t stop there; the children have also been using the dolls’ house to act out the events of the book, taking on different roles and reimagining the tiger’s visit. This imaginative play is a key part of the EYFS, helping our nursery school children build confidence and social understanding through shared play.
