This week in Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School, the children have been enjoying the classic story Jack and the Beanstalk as their core book. The story sparked lots of excitement and curiosity, especially around the idea of magic beans growing into a giant beanstalk. This led to some thoughtful conversations, as the children began to reflect on how all seeds and beans can feel a little bit magical as they grow into food we can eat and flowers we can admire.

The children were especially delighted to see that the sunflower seeds they planted a few weeks ago have started to grow, just like the beanstalk in the story. Watching their plants develop over time has supported their understanding of the natural world, as well as encouraging patience and care as they observe changes day by day. The children have been making connections between stories and real life experiences, deepening their understanding through play and discussion.

On Friday, Laura from Travelling Light visited for her regular session, supporting the children to extend their language through art and movement. Also this week, the children explored sensory play using sweet smelling herbs from the garden, alongside nature inspired music. The experience encouraged the children to express themselves creatively, using their senses to explore textures, smells and sounds while building confidence in communication and imaginative play.
