Children in Orange Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School made the most of a week of changing weather, exploring the outdoor environment in both rain and sunshine. The shifting conditions provided a rich opportunity for children to observe the natural world, encouraging curiosity as they searched for snails and insects and took care of the growing garden allotment. These experiences supported children’s understanding of the world around them, as well as their confidence in exploring different environments.
Indoors and outdoors, children enjoyed experimenting with colour through painting, freely expressing their ideas and developing their creativity. These activities supported fine motor skills and early mark making, while also giving children the chance to talk about colours, textures and their artistic choices.
The story Lima’s Red Hot Chilli continued to inspire learning across the room. Children explored real coconuts and chillies, with some showing great bravery as they investigated unfamiliar textures, smells and tastes. This hands-on experience helped to build language, curiosity and a willingness to try new things, as well as supporting personal, social and emotional development through shared experiences and encouragement./
