Children in Willow Room at The Limes Nursery School have been showing a strong interest in cars and other vehicles, and this curiosity has been shaping our learning experiences. We have been creating simple roads, bridges and ramps using masking tape, giving children the chance to design routes and think carefully about how vehicles move through space. As they experimented, they began to notice what worked well and how they could adapt their ideas, developing early problem-solving skills and confidence in their own thinking.
We also explored what happens when cars move through paint, rolling vehicles down ramps and watching the marks they leave behind. Children were fascinated by the patterns and tracks created, as well as how colours changed when they mixed together. This hands-on investigation supported their understanding of cause and effect, while also encouraging creativity and descriptive language as they talked about what they could see.
Out in the garden, a car wash experience proved very popular. Children worked together to clean vehicles using water, sponges and brushes, building their physical skills while also engaging in cooperative play. These shared moments provided opportunities for communication, turn-taking and imaginative storytelling as they acted out familiar experiences.
We will continue to build on this interest next week, offering more exciting opportunities for children to explore vehicles, test their ideas and deepen their learning through play.
