Green Class at The Limes Nursery School have been enjoying a week full of strawberry discoveries, inspired by their core book The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear. The story sparked curiosity and led to a range of hands-on experiences with real strawberries.

The children spent time carefully exploring the strawberries using their senses. They compared sizes and weights, talking about which strawberries felt heavier or looked bigger, supporting their early mathematical understanding. As they handled the fruit, they developed their descriptive language, noticing the bright red colour, the seeds on the outside, and the soft, juicy texture.

Of course, tasting was a highlight of the week. The children confidently tried the strawberries, sharing their thoughts about the flavour and texture. These shared experiences encouraged communication and conversation, as well as supporting personal, social and emotional development as children took turns and explored new foods together.

This engaging exploration helped to bring the story to life, deepening the children’s understanding through real experiences and supporting their curiosity about the world around them.
