Class 2 at Rosemary Nursery School has had a brilliantly hands-on week, with the allotment, the garden and The Very Hungry Caterpillar all featuring heavily!

A trip to the allotment turned into a wonderful bug hunt, with the children discovering ladybirds, shield bugs, bees, snails and worms. The fascination on their faces as they explored each creature was just lovely to see, and it sparked some brilliant conversations about minibeasts and the natural world around us.

Back inside, the children have been enjoying The Very Hungry Caterpillar and putting their creativity to work by making their own caterpillars using pipe cleaners and material. It is a lovely way to bring a story to life and develop fine motor skills at the same time.

Out in the garden, the children have also been getting stuck into clay paint, using big, sweeping gross motor movements to make large marks. This kind of physical, expressive mark-making is a fantastic foundation for early writing and a real joy to watch.
