This week, Class 2 has been investigating shape and exploring how different shapes fit together, developing their mathematical understanding and problem-solving skills. We have also been having important conversations about friendships and discussing how we can be kind to our friends, building our social skills and empathy.
The children have enjoyed reading “The Colour Monster” and talking about how we feel, which has sparked wonderful discussions about different emotions and how to express them. We have been taking care of our dolls in the classroom, practising nurturing behaviours, and exploring sound in the garden by making lots of music using pots and pans.
These activities support the Early Years Foundation Stage areas of Mathematics through shape exploration, Personal, Social and Emotional Development through friendship discussions and emotional literacy, and Expressive Arts and Design through music-making and imaginative play with dolls.
