Green Class at The Limes has been busy exploring, creating and learning through a range of hands-on experiences this month.

Children enjoyed investigating pumpkins, developing their fine motor skills and learning about safe tool use with child-friendly safety knives. As they carefully cut into the pumpkins and removed the pips, they talked about what pumpkins can be used for, from making food to planting and growing new pumpkins. These conversations linked closely to children’s current interests in Halloween and encouraged rich descriptive language as they explored the textures inside, describing them as “slimy”, “squidgy” and “sticky”.

The children also explored a selection of natural materials including lavender, rosemary and seasonal flowers. They used their senses to smell, touch and closely examine the different plants before using them creatively alongside clay. This provided opportunities for imaginative expression, sensory exploration and conversations about the natural world.

Music and creativity came together as children designed and created their own drum sets using everyday objects. They experimented with different materials and discovered how objects can produce a variety of sounds, tones and pitches. Through exploring rhythm, listening carefully and sharing ideas, children developed their confidence and curiosity about sound.

We were also delighted to welcome parents and carers into Green Class for a special Stay and Play session linked to Black History Month. Families shared our new core texts and took part in activities that celebrated diversity, identity and the things that make us unique. It was wonderful to see children and adults learning together and enjoying time in the classroom.
