We have come to the end of our first term in Rainbow Room at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery School, and what a brilliant term it has been.
The children have done incredibly well settling into their new setting. It has been lovely to see them become more comfortable and confident as they explore all areas of the room, make full use of the garden, and begin to form positive friendships with one another. Through their play and daily experiences, the children have been developing their confidence, communication skills and independence.
As part of Black History Month, Rainbow Room has been learning about faces and celebrating both our similarities and differences. The children enjoyed developing their fine motor skills by colouring self-portraits on paper plates using a range of skin tone pencils. With the help of mirrors, they carefully observed their own features and thought about what makes them unique.
Using a large mirror together also created lots of opportunities for discussion as the children looked closely at their hands, faces and hair. They talked about what they noticed was the same and what was different, helping to build their understanding of themselves and others while celebrating diversity within the room.
Well done, Rainbow Room, on such a successful first term!
