Children in Rosemary Class 2 have had a wonderfully messy and creative time exploring early writing and coordination through a range of exciting mark-making activities. Using paint pens, squishy foam and sticky paint glue, they have been discovering how different materials feel and move while creating their own marks, lines and shapes.

These hands-on experiences provide valuable opportunities for children to develop their fine motor skills and hand strength, which are important foundations for early writing. As they squeezed, squished and manipulated the different materials, children were also developing their spatial awareness and building confidence in using a range of tools and resources.

The children enjoyed practising drawing straight lines, wiggly lines and a variety of shapes, showing increasing control and coordination. It has been particularly exciting to see some children beginning to write the first letter of their names. This is an important milestone in their early literacy journey, helping children make meaningful connections between print, communication and their own identity.

The enthusiasm for mark-making has been fantastic, and children will continue to explore new and engaging ways to develop these skills as their confidence and creativity continue to grow.
