Children in Green Room at The Limes Nursery School have had a fantastic start to the year, exploring stories, nature and new experiences together.
This month, children have been enjoying their core book, Owl Babies. Using props to retell the story, they have been developing their communication and language skills while exploring themes of separation and reassurance. Through thoughtful conversations, children shared ideas about what they can do when they miss their grown-ups and reflected on the comforting message that loved ones always come back.
There has also been lots of splashy fun in the garden as children explored the new water resources. They have been investigating how water moves, working together and sharing ideas while developing their confidence and curiosity through play.
Nature has provided plenty of opportunities for discovery too. Children have been busy collecting snails and creating a habitat for them, discussing what snails might like to eat and what sort of home would help them thrive. These experiences have encouraged children to observe closely, ask questions and think carefully about the needs of living things.
Children have also been using all of their senses to explore a large sunflower head, carefully extracting the seeds and linking their discoveries to the story Little Sunflower. In key groups, they have covered and dampened some of the seeds and are now monitoring them closely to see which ones sprout roots first, introducing early scientific thinking and prediction skills.
The Green Room team is incredibly proud of how well all the children, both those returning and those new to nursery, have settled into their environment. It has been a wonderful start to the year, full of learning, friendship and exploration.
