Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School has had a really exciting week, with lots of brilliant minibeast discoveries in the garden!

The children have found a wide variety of insects and have been observing them closely using magnifying bug pots, which has been wonderful for developing their observational skills and curiosity about the natural world. The real highlight though was finding an amazing caterpillar on our willow trees, along with another caterpillar in the classroom that had run out of food in the garden.

The children have been doing a brilliant job of looking after both caterpillars, bringing in willow cuttings from the river near nursery and feeding them every day, watching closely to see how much they eat. Through some research, we discovered that this is a Puss Moth caterpillar, which will one day transform into a beautiful moth.

To support this learning, we have brought out the butterfly house from last term, which the children will remember fondly from when our Painted Lady caterpillars emerged into beautiful butterflies as part of our core book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. It is lovely to see the children making these connections and continuing their fascination with life cycles.
