This week in Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School has been full of purposeful activity as children have been practising a wide range of skills across the nursery. They have been developing their fine motor control through threading and learning how to tie simple knots, showing great concentration and perseverance as they worked. These activities support early hand strength and coordination, which are important foundations for writing and everyday independence.
Children have also taken great care of our herbs, watering them and noticing changes as they grow. This has encouraged curiosity about the natural world and helped children to understand responsibility as they look after living things together. Alongside this, children have enjoyed exploring different ways of being creative, particularly when painting 3D objects. They have experimented with colour, texture and shape, expressing their own ideas and building confidence in their artistic choices.
Our core book for the next two weeks is Titch by Pat Hutchins. The story has sparked thoughtful conversations about what it feels like to be small when others seem bigger or have more. Children have been making connections to their own experiences, sharing ideas and building language as they talk about families and growing. Inspired by Titch’s tiny seed that grows into something big and special, the children have planted their own seeds and are excited to watch what happens next. This hands-on experience brings the story to life while supporting understanding of growth and change over time.
