After the warm half term break, Orange Room at St Werburgh’s Nursery School returned to cooler, wetter weather, which brought plenty of muddy puddles to explore. The children were excited to be back together again, sharing their holiday stories and reconnecting with friends through conversation and play, supporting their communication and language development as well as their sense of belonging.

This week’s story, about Lima who ate a red hot chilli, sparked lots of discussion and thinking. The children explored the idea of solving problems, just as Lima’s parents did in the story, suggesting their own creative ideas and listening carefully to one another. These moments supported the children’s confidence in expressing their thoughts while also developing their understanding of how to approach challenges.

There was great excitement as the children began woodworking, learning new skills around safety, handling tools carefully, and planning what they wanted to make. They showed increasing independence and perseverance as they created their own pieces, with some fantastic early designs already taking shape.

Next week, the children will continue exploring the story and develop their woodworking skills further, building on what they have learned and extending their ideas.
