Green Room at The Limes has had a wonderful week, with some really impressive building and an exciting real-life nature story unfolding right in the classroom!

The children have been deeply focused on creating structures this week, and the designs have been genuinely sophisticated. Rather than just diving in, the children have been planning their structures beforehand and looking to non-fiction books for inspiration, exploring incredible buildings and structures from around the world. It has been a brilliant way to develop early design thinking, creativity and an understanding of the world around them.

Our core book this week is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, and it has taken on extra special meaning because Green Room has its very own real caterpillars! The children have been closely observing the caterpillars as they eat and grow, learning about life cycles, growth over time and sequencing in the most hands-on way possible. This week has brought some very exciting news — our caterpillars are currently forming their chrysalises! We cannot wait to see what happens next.

If you would like to enjoy the story at home, you can watch the official animated film here:
