This week in Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School, children have been busy exploring the joy of making through both big and small creations. Large cardboard boxes became exciting building materials as children worked together to create big models, lifting, carrying and arranging with care. Alongside this, they focused on adding tiny details, carefully manipulating smaller materials and tools, supporting the development of both gross and fine motor skills through purposeful play.
The children also created their own caterpillars as they followed our core book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. This activity encouraged children to think about sequence, shape and colour, while strengthening hand control and coordination. Linking creative work to familiar stories helped children deepen their understanding and confidently share their ideas with others.
Inside the classroom, children explored paint sticks as a different medium for mark making and self-expression. Using this alternative to brushes allowed them to experiment with pressure, movement and texture, building confidence and creativity as they expressed their own ideas through art.
