Class 1 at Rosemary Nursery School has been diving into a brilliant new core book this week, Handa’s Surprise by Eilean Browne, and the children have been bringing the story to life in the most wonderful ways!
Inspired by Handa’s famous journey, the children have been taking on a balance challenge, seeing if they can carry fruit on their heads and walk to Akeyo’s village just like Handa does in the story. It has been great fun and a fantastic way to develop balance, coordination and physical confidence whilst staying fully immersed in the book.
The children have also been getting up close with the real fruits that feature in the story, sniffing, touching and talking about what they look, feel and smell like. There has been lots of brilliant language flowing as the children described their discoveries together. The excitement is building too, because next week the children will finally get to taste the fruit and find out what it is like — we cannot wait!
