The children have been becoming bakers, making gingerbread men biscuits and developing important practical life skills. We have been using our visual recipe to help us, following step-by-step instructions through pictures whilst building independence and understanding of sequential processes.
We take time to explore and play with all the ingredients, engaging with the textures, smells, and properties of each component before combining them. The children have been pinching ginger, spooning flour, mixing and rolling the dough, as well as cutting out their shapes, developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through each stage of the baking process.
This hands-on cooking experience teaches children about following instructions, measuring, and the transformation of ingredients through baking.
