This week in Class 1, we have been exploring painting on different surfaces including tracing paper, card, and our hands, noticing what happened to the paint on each material. This investigation helps children understand how different surfaces absorb or repel paint whilst developing their observational and comparative skills.
We have painted with glue too, covering numbers, shapes, and letters with sand and had a big surprise when the sand stuck to the glue! This exciting discovery introduced children to adhesive properties whilst creating textured representations of familiar symbols and forms.
We have made Christmas sprays for the garden with holly, ivy, and fir, thinking about the evergreen trees that provided the leaves and why some trees stay green and others don’t. This seasonal activity connects children with nature whilst introducing scientific concepts about deciduous and evergreen plants, helping them understand the natural world around them.
