We have been reading our core book “Owl Babies” and using it to explore emotions such as being worried or missing someone, helping children identify and understand their own feelings whilst building empathy through the story of the three baby owls waiting for their mother to return.
The children have been using autumn leaves and other natural materials to explore pattern, shape, and size, noticing the different characteristics of leaves whilst creating arrangements and comparing mathematical properties through hands-on investigation.
We have been investigating ocean and arctic habitats through small world resources and play, discovering the creatures that live in these very different environments whilst developing understanding of how animals adapt to their surroundings. This imaginative exploration brings learning about the natural world to life through child-led play.
