This week we have been keeping warm in the garden by dancing to music and moving our bodies playing hopscotch, developing gross motor skills and coordination whilst enjoying physical activity in the colder weather. Hopscotch also introduces early number recognition and sequencing as children navigate the numbered squares.
We have thought about numbers and measure in other areas too, exploring mathematical concepts through hands-on activities. The children have been investigating height and length, comparing sizes and developing understanding of measurement, and exploring quantities of ingredients to add to their creations in the mud kitchen whilst experimenting with concepts like “more,” “less,” and “enough” through imaginative cooking play.
