This week, the children have been celebrating Diwali, learning about the Festival of Lights through hands-on experiences. We have been creating clay Diyas, developing fine motor skills whilst making these traditional lamps. The children watched and took part in a puppet show of Rama and Sita, engaging with the narrative through interactive storytelling whilst learning about this significant cultural celebration.
We have been making patterns with the peg boards, exploring mathematical concepts through arranging colours and shapes in sequences. The children have also been baking bread this week to share with our friends at snack time, using a visual recipe and following step-by-step instructions whilst learning about measuring, mixing, and the transformation of ingredients through baking.
We have been investigating pumpkins, scooping out the insides, counting, noticing, and subitising the seeds. This exploration has provided fantastic opportunities for mathematical thinking whilst engaging with seasonal produce through sensory and hands-on investigation.
