Our children at The Limes Nursery School have been busy with an exciting strawberry planting project that helps them discover how food grows and learn to care for living plants. This hands-on experience gives children the chance to connect with nature right here in our nursery garden.
Each child took part in the planting process, using their child-sized trowels to dig holes in the soil we had prepared together carefully. This activity helps develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while teaching children how to use garden tools safely and prepare the ground for planting.
Our experienced practitioners worked alongside the children as they gently placed their strawberry plants into the holes, showing them how to handle plants with care and respect. The children then completed the process by watering their plants using individual watering cans, which helped them understand that plants require ongoing care and attention to grow well.
This gardening experience supports many areas of learning, including helping children understand the world around them and developing their physical skills. The children are already looking forward to harvesting their strawberries later in the year, which will help them see the connection between their hard work and the delicious fruit they will be able to enjoy.
This project showcases our approach to learning at The Limes Nursery School, where we ensure children experience a diverse range of activities that support their development and foster their natural curiosity about the world around them.
