Children at Rosemary Nursery School have been exploring and investigating the natural world through exciting mud tray activities that help them learn about the environment. Our nursery, located in the heart of Bristol city centre, creates excellent opportunities for children to work with natural materials and develop their thinking skills through hands-on exploration.
The children have been using real garden tools, including child-sized forks and trowels, to scoop, dig, and explore mud and soil with great enthusiasm. Our practitioners support the children as they explore different textures, fill containers of various sizes, and discuss what they discover. These conversations help children learn new words and develop their language skills as they describe what they can see, feel, and do with the materials.
This hands-on exploration helps children develop their understanding of the world around them and supports their communication and language development. The children are building their scientific vocabulary and learning to observe carefully as they investigate the properties of different natural materials.
These mud tray activities demonstrate our commitment at Rosemary Nursery School to providing authentic learning experiences that connect children with natural materials, even though we are situated in the busy city centre. We believe these authentic experiences help children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
