Children at St Werburgh’s Park Nursery have been developing important life skills through an exciting ice lolly making project that combines fine motor development with cooking creativity. We provide real cooking experiences that involve children in every step of making their own food.
The children showed wonderful independence as they carefully peeled their own oranges, developing their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Our practitioners supported the children through the blending process, where they took turns stirring the freshly blended orange mixture, learning to work together and share equipment with their friends.
The excitement continued as children used scooping techniques to fill moulds with their orange mixture, followed by carefully inserting lolly pop sticks. This hands-on approach to food preparation built up to the anticipation of enjoying their own frozen treats, helping children understand the connection between their hard work and the delicious results.
This cooking project demonstrates how we help children develop practical life skills while having fun and working together. The children were proud of what they had created and enjoyed sharing their homemade ice lollies with each other.
